COED-Y-PAEN
Coed-y-Paen is a small village, a ward of Llangybi Fawr Community Council. It is said that Coed-y-Paen was once common land, hence its name - Common Coed-y-Paen.It was known everywhere as the Common. According to records Coed-y-Paen was originally called Coed mab Payn, which translated from Welsh means ‘the Wood of the son of Payn'.
Coed-y-Paen has no grand buildings of historical interest, no ancient monuments nor traditional village shop. It consists of approximately 50 dwellings, various farms, a pub (The Carpenter's Arms) and a Church. Many years ago there was a village School and a Hall but both have gone. There is no bus service.
Despite all of this the village is a desirable place to live. Most social events centre around the Church and the Carpenter's Arms. We have a Residents' Association which is very active. To most of the inhabitants it is the only place to live and very few leave, once settled.
